I’ve uploaded the latest updates to the VTF Shell Extensions and 3DS Max VTF plug-in as mentioned in my last post.

The fixes don’t add anything over the previous version, however I’ve switched to using Nem’s VTFLib directly, rather than a sub-set of its code. This means I can now update and add more functions as needed without having to change huge chunks of my original code base.

Belated Merry Xmas and Happy New year. The past seven weeks have been crazy for me and my feet have hardly touched the ground. Here’s a summary…

Xmas was spent in Luleå with my girlfriend and her family. It’s a 14 hour train ride from Stockholm and only a stones throw away from the Arctic Circle. Coldest day was -29°C. New Year I was back in Stockholm without my beau and only a 17 year old bottle of Islay Whiskey for company.

Project wise, January has been frantic. I picked up a bundle of freelance work doing some character models for another Source based project for Tim Holt. Due to N.D.A’s I’m not allowed to say much, except for the fact it’s another Serious Games type project as was “Pulse!!” that I worked on before. This time however it’s more about recreating history from a first-person perspective.

The “Secret Project” I hinted at last year is progressing nicely. Myself and the team have passed our own expectations of what we’d achieve and are pushing forward with getting it ready for its public unveiling. The current plan is to make an official announcement at the end of January with a public release sometime towards the end of February. Watch this space…

I’ve been trying my best to get my new Panzerabwehrkanone 7,5 cm Pak 40 L/48 map model finished as a couple of people are waiting for it. I’ve now finished the actual modelling and finally got the UV mapping done. I’ve now rendered out the shadow maps which will form the base texture and the result is a much more natural look to the models lighting in Source. All thats left now is the normal maps, LOD levels, collision model…

Oh I’ve been asked a lot if I’m every going to port my tree models to Source and finish that U-Boat I started. The answer is yes, when I get time. I want to get them done as I hate leaving stuff un-finished.

Last of all, I’ve made a quick update to the VTF Shell Extensions to integrate VTFLib fully rather than just a sub-set. Main reason for doing this is that it allows better support via VTFLib and I can keep the extensions up-do-date much more easily. I’m also integrating VTFLib into the 3DS Max VTF plug-in as well.

Haven’t I been a busy little bee…
