Wannabe HackersTue, March 30th, 2004 @ 12:47
I was browsing the comments over at Nem’s Tools and had to laugh at the comments to some of his news posts. Ever since Valve released CS:CZ with its “pay to download” requirement and encrypted GCF file, the attempts and speculation on how to get the game for free has been rife.
Seeing as how Nem wrote GFCScape, which allows you to exctract non-encrypted GCF files, people have been pounding away at the CS:CZ file which obviously isn’t working.
Some of the idea’s posted on how to “crack” the file are just plain hilarious, for example:
“Looking @ the encryption valve did i notice tht these text files are in CHINESE…. unfortunately i cant read chinese but if ur chinses u mite be able 2 “decypt” it by translating.
O.K. I know a lot of people think the Steam team are a bit retared because of some of the ways they’ve implemented some things but using a foreign language as an encryption algorithm?

XSI ExporterMon, March 29th, 2004 @ 02:03
I tried Softimage|XSI for Half-Life 2 for the first time yesterday. It was a lot like banging you head against a brick wall – most pleasurable when over.
Needless to say its more crippled than Stephen Hawkins and I was mighty annoyed that it supports bugger all import formats.
Anyhew in an attempt to make it a little easier to save and reuse all those models I made for the original Half-Life engine I knocked up an XSI 3.0 export plug-in for Milkshape3D.
Its a beta. Please break it and tell me how you did it. It helps me fix things.

HLMV UpdateThu, March 18th, 2004 @ 12:47
I’ve made a few updates to my version of the Half-Life Model Viewer. It’s nothing major, just a few tweaks and some addition features that people asked me to add. Oh and it actually has a proper installer this time.

Modelling JobSun, March 14th, 2004 @ 17:36

Hmm, so like yeah. I haven’t been around much on-line.
Apart from feeling really bloody depressed of late I kind of accidentaly stumbled into a freelance job. I offered to do a 3D modelling job for a map in the game Day of Defeat and got taken up on it. Was quite suprised how well the model was recieved considering I seriously fucked up with the texture when I accidently saved my source PSD flattened. Doh!
Still, the model Waco glider is being used in the next release of DoD and apparently I’m even being paid for it!
Now after the excitement of making aircraft it’s back down to earth as I’ve got to make a load of model of trees. W00t!
So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to. Oh and I’ve updated HLMV but more on that later.
