Take 2Thu, August 28th, 2003 @ 23:36

For those that use it theres an update to my Milkshape 3D POV-Ray 3.5 plugin.

No major changes from version 1.0 except I’ve fixed support for different texture formats.

That is all…

Jury’s VerdictThu, August 28th, 2003 @ 13:52

I had to send the source code I modified for HLMV back to its original author today for debugging.

Yes I’m a geek, yes I’m nervous. My code is an ugly hack fest. They may take me into the streets and pelt me with stones.

The need for speedMon, August 25th, 2003 @ 15:25

WHY am I being cursed with the worst choice of ISP in the world?

Currently the only ISP servicing my apartment building is UPC and for the extortionate price of 414 SEK a month they give me a a piss poor 1Mb/384kb cable modem connection with any useful port firewalled off at the router.

Ok, I’m not intending to host some 0-day warez site on the goddam thing but blocking ports 21, 25, 80 and 110 and filtering anything on port 22 really makes it shitty if your a semi tech-savvy Linux user and want to access your machine remotely.

But whats really got my goat is a few of the better broadband ISP’s have been pimping their connections, sending me promises of 10Mb-26Mb downstream, 8mb-10Mb upstream and even 5 fixed IP’s with no port filtering for the same price as I’m paying now.

So with the semi-pornographic brochures in front of me, I call them slavering at the mouth at the thought of not having to wait 2 hours to upload a 5Mb file any more to be told the great news…

Seems that my building is the only one in my entire district thats connected to a telephone sub-exhange and its the wrong “type” of sub-exchange and hence, no soup for you.

Maybe if I sue the broadband companies for false advertising after them saying I can get a better connection. Maybe then I can afford to move somewhere where I CAN get one.

I’m getting nervous and its for no sensible reason.

HLMV has grown into a monster of bizarre proportions and could possibly be the best thing I’ve ever written.

Problem is, as about 25% of the code in it is derived from the Half-Life SDK and the other 60% is what came with the original HLMV source and as such, I need to get permission from the original code authors to release it.

Not a problem with the Half-Life stuff but I can’t predict what Mete will say about his source being used.

I’m filled with this horrible sense of foreboding that he’ll say “No” and I’ll of wasted 4 very productive weeks.

Coffee JittersSat, August 23rd, 2003 @ 15:19

Daring to be social and let the sun’s rays touch my skin, I left the house yesterday and spent the evening drinking coffee with my friends Deliana and Selvios.

It went on a lot longer than I anticipated to the point that both D and I went through a complete coffee high and comedown which we attempted to rectify by consuming beer.

During the coffee part of our tour-d’force, the pens and paper came out and both D and S sat sketching various anime style cartoons. One of the topics that came up was “Jed’s idea woman” to which much doodling was done.

Deliana’s interpretation was pretty spot on whereas the doodle Selvios presented me with will haunt my dreams for many, many years to come. Selv, you are a strange individual.

I had hoped to scan these artistic gems but the high lord satan himself, Bill Gates, has deemed that as reward for me finally upgrading to Windows XP, I must forfeit the right to use my parallel port scanner. Apparently printer ports are too “old skool” for this hipster and something called USB is what all the kids on the street are raving about these days.

Sadly this old fuddy-duddy refuses to believe this new fangled USB stuff will catch on and I’m going to have to install Windows 98 on my spare machine - just to scan an 8″x5″ pen sketch.
