I was browsing the comments over at Nem’s Tools and had to laugh at the comments to some of his news posts. Ever since Valve released CS:CZ with its “pay to download” requirement and encrypted GCF file, the attempts and speculation on how to get the game for free has been rife.
Seeing as how Nem wrote GFCScape, which allows you to exctract non-encrypted GCF files, people have been pounding away at the CS:CZ file which obviously isn’t working.
Some of the idea’s posted on how to “crack” the file are just plain hilarious, for example:
“Looking @ the encryption valve did i notice tht these text files are in CHINESE…. unfortunately i cant read chinese but if ur chinses u mite be able 2 “decypt” it by translating.” [sic]
O.K. I know a lot of people think the Steam team are a bit retarded because of some of the ways they’ve implemented some things but using a foreign language as an encryption algorithm?

As I’m led to understand, ancient Egyptian Glyphs make almost a 128 encryption.
They are actually in a peculiar dialect of Mandarin.
